Honouring Mother's Day When Dementia is Present

Mother’s Day is being celebrated this Sunday but if your Mom has been afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related Dementia, this can be a hard day for all concerned. While it may be difficult to communicate with her now, we pulled together some tips that can help.

Here are some tips for honouring your Mom with dementia on Mother’s Day:

• Spend time together
• Take some time to look through some old photo albums together.
• Play music that was special to her in the past and maybe sing-a-long.
• Make her a special meal with her favourite dishes.

Show gratitude for all the memories and experiences you’ve had together and celebrate both who she was and who she is now.

Wishing you and your mom a Happy Mother’s Day.
