There are several things we can do to stay healthy, Re-Charge, Re-Connect, Re-Fresh and avoid burn out.
These actions will help us be an effective CareGiver going into the future.
Complete the checklist below to recognize what we are doing to ensure we stay healthy and what small changes we could make to be more resilient.
_ I ensure to get enough sleep and eat healthy daily
_ I have the skills and information I require in order to give the care needed
_ I maintain regular contact with family, friends and make time to spend with them
_ I ask others for help and accept help when it is offered.
_ I know I don’t have to and can’t do this alone
_ I do communicate effectively with the person I am caring for, as well as with other family
members
_ I am aware of community resources that are available to help support me in my CareGiver
role
_ I attend a CareGiver support group or have a supportive network with whom I can share my
challenges and success, name them
_ I make use of respite options available and take breaks away from my CareGiving
responsibilities, when did you do this last
_ I have gathered information about the progression of my loved once disease, so I know what
to expect and prepare in advance as best I can
--I know how to navigate the healthcare system and who to ask if, and when, I need help
What one small change will you implement?
